Chapter 10
I had to pee, which gave me the opportunity to put on a shirt. When I came back, Preston had managed to dress himself from the waist down. He put out his hand, and I took it, letting him draw me down onto the mattress. We wrapped each other up like a pretzel. Who needed covers? These werewolf men were like heating blankets.
I ran my hands through his hair when he spoke. âI promise that Iâm going to make you so happy. Youâre going to be happy here. I promise you.â
I rubbed my cheek against the slight growth of hair on his cheeks. The stubble burned and I loved it. âI donât need promises. Iâm actually a pretty simple person. I might be wrong to be the first Omega born in who knows how long. I should be spiritual and all knowing. The only thing I can think about right now is how many clothes we go through with the shifting. Put them on, tear them off.â
He snorted. âWe should go get a whole bunch of cheap clothes in bulk. We can all match. And just tear them to bits without caring about them.â
âDo you think the Loups will just keep coming? How are they finding me? There canât be so many around that they can smell me.â
Preston kissed me. âI donât know. All things that we will figure out. Iâd promise but you said no promises.â
My hands burned, and I looked around. There was no scent in the air, no indication that anyone was coming. I didnât have the nervous energy that would usually indicate something approaching. No, all of my attention turned to Preston.
He tilted his head. âWhatâs going on?â
âMy healing is on and only you are here. Maybe I should ask you that. Whatâs going on?â I stroked his back, slowly letting the heat move into him.
He shook his head. âThereâs no need for that, you amazing Omega. Iâm okay, Mac. Iâd just had a sad thought. Itâll pass.â
It wasnât a small one. That was for sure. A small thought wouldnât have brought my powers online. It was weird to think like that as though it was normal. Powers. I continued to rub his back, and he sighed. âSeriously, donât waste your powers on me.â
I didnât respond to that. This wasnât much of a power drain. This was more like a hug, and he clearly needed it. âWhat made you sad? Or am I prying? I realize we just shared⦠well, what we just shared. But youâre totally entitled to not tell me. We donât know each other yet.â
He shook his head. âWe do know each other. I feel like we know each otherâs souls. Weâre mated.â He placed his hand on my shirt over the mark heâd made on my chest. âWe have to work out the details, but we know each other.â
Maybe there was some truth to that. âIâll accept that answer.â
He smiled. âThat thing youâre doing, itâs like a hot bath. Fuck. I
